As a general rule, Zodiac chlorinator cells last approximately
4-6 years. Many cells last longer, but others can fail
in a shorter period.
Individual pool operating conditions, water chemistry
and cell maintenance account for the variations in chlorinator
cell life.
As new electrode coating materials and technologies
are developed, Zodiac incorporates these improvements
into its cell manufacturing process.
Zodiac cells are manufactured in a tightly controlled
environment, so that there is no significant difference
in performance or quality from one cell to the next,
or to any other. There is no difference in the coating
thickness or quality from one cell production batch
to another.
If one Zodiac cell lasts a significantly longer period
than another, the reason almost invariably will be related
to the operating conditions of the cell, and the cell
cleaning methods.
While it is desirable to maximize cell life, the wide
variations in the operating conditions and customer
care of cells will always produce variations in the
cell life. For example, if a chlorinator owner reduces
the daily operating period from 8 hours to 6 hours,
and turned the output control from 100% to 70%, the
life of the Zodiac cell would be doubled!
Zodiac is one of the few manufacturers that use a clear
plastic cell design. This feature allows the pool owner
to very easily determine if there is any calcium buildup
indicating the cell needs manual cleaning which in turn
helps prolong cell life.
Zodiac cells are mass produced in such a way that there
is immeasurable difference in the quality from one cell
to another.
There is, however, a wide variation in the life of Zodiac
cells due to the fact that no two pool operating environments
are identical.
